About Guyton
Guyton is one of Effingham County, Georgia's oldest towns, tracing its roots to a 1790s settlement once called Whitesville before the railroad renamed it Guyton. Incorporated in 1887, this small community of about 2,300 northwest of Savannah is known for its Civil War history, historic downtown and beloved annual holiday tour of homes.
- One of the county's oldest towns — the 1790s "Whitesville" settlement, renamed Guyton by the railroad.
- Rich Civil War heritage: a Confederate hospital stood here, and soldiers are buried in the local cemetery.
- Its beloved December tour of homes draws thousands, with the historic railroad median lit by ~7,000 lights.
